Carabao Cup draw: Man City to play Preston, Man Utd meet Rochdale

Manchester City celebrate
Man City beat Chelsea on penalties in the 2018-19 final

Holders Manchester City will travel to Preston in the Carabao Cup third round, while Manchester United will host League One side Rochdale.

Liverpool were drawn away against MK Dons and Southampton will visit south coast rivals Portsmouth.

Last year's finalists Chelsea will play Grimsby or Macclesfield, Tottenham face League Two's Colchester United, and Arsenal host Nottingham Forest.

The ties will be played in the week beginning 23 September.

    Why is the "Preston v Manchester City" game the headline??? Its a nothing game between an honest mid table Championship team and a team built from money off the back of oil and human rights issues.

    Proper passionate cup tie in Portsmouth v Southampton.

    Portsmouth v Southampton - that has to be the tie of the round! The rivalry between these two south coast clubs is immense. There will be no love lost here, that's for sure!

    Fantastic tie for Rochdale. Wish them all the best and a money earner to help them going forward. A well run club on a budget and doing amazingly in league one considering home gates of just 3,000.

    There must be some really bitter people on this right now downvoting me for being happy my team gets to go to Old Trafford.

    For the majority of people on here their club playing Utd at OT is just another game, I on the other hand may never get to see it again in my lifetime, forgive me for being slightly happy you sad bunch of what are likely glory hunters.

    I am a Man City Fan and thought as the draw came out that the Portsmouth v Southampton looks to be the Most interesting. There are also some possible hurdles for the PL Clubs if they don't take it seriously.

    Why is the 5th placed team in the PL, last years 6th placed team who fimished a mahoosive 32 pts from top mentioned in the headline?

    You can understand the holders city being mentioned, but not this other murky little "club".

    Portsmouth against Southampton, at long last. Boy, have we missed each other. My first derby at the Dell when we knew it was half time if the Ref had not blown his whistle in more than two minutes. Okay, we are more superior to you out of tune chime bells in league position and now we will prove it to the world. Let battle begin and the best team win. Good times are back for 90 mins. at least.
